MPoD version 1.4 is available from the AppStore. New features and fixes in this release:

Directly browse the mpd structure. This was the most requested feature for MPoD. As result you now have to option to either use the local cache, or get data directly from the server.
Use local cover art that is shared through http. By sharing your music folder on the MPD server over http, MPoD can pick up cover art from the folder of the currently playing track. This is in addition to the Amazon based cover art;
Improved streaming (on-the-go mode) through the use of the RadioKit SDK from Stormy Productions. Stopping and pausing of a stream works better, plus there is visual feedback on when MPoD is connecting/buffering;
Simplified streaming settings;
Show information on current bitrate;
Fix cover art problems for timezones far away from GMT;
Some small bugfixes.

MPoD v1.4 – unexpected problems

Functionality wise v1.4 of MPoD is ready. This version has 3 major improvements:

use local cover art that is shared through http;
directly browse the mpd structure;
improved streaming (on-the-go mode).

Unfortunately the move I made to SDK 3.0 has made the application unstable, and it crashes a lot all of sudden, looks like its due to memory shortage. I’m thinking about how to handle this, but it at least means that it will take more time before the 1.4 version can be released.

MPoD version 1.3.1 is available in the AppStore. This version ensures that cover art will still work after August 15, and has some small improvements:

finer grained volume controls;
enabling/disabling of configured mpd outputs;
displaying the filename when the title tag is missing;
MPoD can detect when the mpd database has changed and reload its cache;
bugfixes in connection settings screen.

Today is a great day for iPhone and MPD lovers: to celebrate the availability of the iPhone 3.0 software, we’re giving all MPD users a little extra present through MPoD v1.3 which is now available in the AppStore.

To wetten people’s appetite a little more, here’s a video of the new 1.3 release of MPoD. It’s been sent to the AppStore and I hope it will appear for download soon. The sound is very crappy because it’s recorded from my living room speakers into the microphone of my laptop.

Below are a couple of screenshots of the new v1.3 of MPoD: cover view, improved list view, support for multiple connections and support for icecast (to listen to your mpd stream directly on your iPhone).

Testing is well underway and I expect that this version can be submitted to the AppStore in the next couple of weeks.

Update May 1, 2009: I’ve had sufficient response by now, and to keep things manageable for me I will not accept additional testers at point.

Coding for version 1.3 of MPoD has finished and I’ve done significant testing so far. Because this version has lots of internal changes, I would like to have additional testing done before releasing it into the AppStore. If you’re interested in assisting with the testing of this new version of MPoD, then you can drop me a message at info at katoemba dot net, or by replying to this post.

MPoD: preview of the next version

The next version of iPhone is coming along well, bringing some new features I’m sure you like:

Improved controls for changing the volume, moving through songs
Seek in a song
Amazon based cover art
Configure multiple connections.

I hope I can finish everything in the next 3 weeks and bring it to the AppStore.

Oh, and one more thing… you can now enjoy your music directly on your iPhone whereever you are. A connection can be configured to run in traditional remote mode, or in on-the-go mode where the iPhone picks up the MPD stream (you need to add an icecast server to your setup, and run mpd 0.14 because the iPhone only supports mp3 format streaming, nog ogg). Tests under 3G and WiFi have been working very well, only downside is that it’s draining the battery rapidly.

Version 1.2.1 of MPoD is available in the AppStore. This version improves a connectivity issue when MPoD is running and the iPhone goes to sleep, and it fixes a crash that occurred frequently when clicking a song in the Now Playing list.
There is no new functionality in this version.
