v1.6.3 for both MPoD and MPaD is available from the AppStore now. The most important change that many people have asked for is better handling of compilations. The apps now use the album-artist tag to group songs, and will also properly display compilations under the artist ‘Various Artists’ or whatever you have named it. Complete release notes:

  • Feature: Added proper handling of compilations by using the album-artist tag to group songs and display ‘Various Artists’ albums.
  • Feature: Made artist capitalization optional.
  • Feature: Show track details in browse mode.
  • Feature: Add ‘back to top’ button in browse mode.
  • Feature: Show art and number of albums in artist view (MPoD only).
  • Feature: Popup to quickly change between connections (MPaD only).
  • UI Change: Improved voice-over labels in playlist screen (MPoD only).
  • Bugfix: Fixed bug where data was not refreshed or inconsistent after the local cache was updated.
  • Bugfix: Move to discogs v2.0 api for cover art retrieval.

Hello! Great app – arguably my favorite app on my iphone4. That said, i have (of late – can’t say for sure if this problem existed prior to the most recent mpod) an issue. When my phone auto-locks, more often than not, the audio cuts out. Almost 100% of the time, unlocking will get the music going. Its almost like the sound is just off – stream seems to be playing. This is over 3G iphone 4 with ios 5. Any changes in the background play that might be affecting this? When the screen is up, everything is fine (and i can see msgs about buffering or losing cnx to server).
    Thanks for a great app!

    Hi Berrie:

Can you tell us how to use the liner notes feature? What file types are supported? How do you display the liner notes in MPad (I have v1.6.3)?

I’ve already got the local cover art working, so my Apache server is OK.

    Thanks.

Hi: I hope I am posting this question in the right way. I have Mpod installed on two different iPods. One is an iPhone 3GS running iOS5 and mPOD 1.6.3 and one is an old iPod Touch (gen 1)running iOS3 and mPOD 1.6.1. I am using them to control a Bryston BDP-1 music player.

Old iPod Touch works perfectly in every way, connects quickly and reconnects quickly if disconnected. The newer setup (iPhone on iOS5) frequently refuses to connect to the server and frequently disconnects when it does connect and often will not reconnect after that. I don’t recall this problem before iOS 5 but perhaps my imagination.

Are there any other reports of this problem and any suggestions as to why the newer setup is working so unreliably?

    Thanks for any input.

Wonderful wonderful app (on my old Touch anyway!)

I’m not aware of the problem and haven’t had other reports of it. Does the iPhone 3GS always correctly detect the wireless network?

        Hi Berrie:

Thanks for your response. I think I have sorted it out and it is not a problem with mPod. I updated the firmware for the Bryston BDP1 and it is discovered much more consistently now. Not sure why the problem wasn’t present with the iPod Touch and occurred only with the iPhone before the Bryston firmware update but that will remain a mystery. All seems good now but thank you for your response and the excellent app.

        Best regards
        Lee

    Hi Berry,

Is there a way in Mpad/Mpod to browse to other albums from the same artist? I know I can click the album icon, but that lists all albums on the server. It would be very handy when playing an album by artist A, to have an icon that gave access to all albums by that same artist A directly.

    Cheers,
    Marius

A nice update that has created an interesting problem: since the album-artist tag is recognised, albums with the same name, by the same composer (album-artist) display the same cover art in Album view. There is now, no way to way to distinguish between versions of albums, (Alban Berg’s Wozzeck by Abbado, Böhm, Boulez or Kegel), all of which appear with the same cover. To find, say, Abbado’s version of Wozzeck I must drill down via the Browse view.

That said, MPoD now doesn’t discover the album art at all, unless the album-artist is the same as the album directory.

Otherwise, as ever, a fabulous app.
