MPoD version 1.2 available in the AppStore
For a great start of 2009, version 1.2 of MPoD is available in the AppStore. The main change in this version is on the inside, where a local database is implemented that caches the information from your MPD server. This results in a major improvement of the startup time, which for my 10K song library goes from 18 seconds down to about 3-4 seconds. Furthermore the main screen should be more responsive now.
In addition to this some smaller functional changes have been included as well:
- Shaking your device while you’re in the now playing screen will activate one of the random modes (random album, or a number of random songs)
- The active playlist includes the artist for each song in case the playlist contains songs by different artists
- On the artist, album and song tabs you can immediately toggle between ‘add mode’ and ‘replace mode’. The ‘add mode’ will add the selected item to the active playlist, whereas the ‘replace mode’ will replace the active playlist contents with the selected item.
Hi,
The 1.2.1 release solves many bugs, many thanks !
I’d like to know if you plan to handle the software localization (i18n), I think I will help to translate into French.
Thanks
What is the point behind removing support for connecting over 3G/EDGE? I’m unfortunately not updating because I like to be able to shut off the music if I leave the house with the server on…
I disabled it because it didn’t seem to make much sense, and can make the application very unresponsive. I’ll probably turn it back as an opt-in to use 3G in the next version.
I’d be very grateful if you did.
Hey,
First, I want to say that the new version of MPoD is much better than the last. The faster startup time is very welcome, as is the “shake for random” feature. And the interface is and always was great.
I think I should report a possible bug though. When using Mpod, if I put my iphone to sleep for a few minutes, my wifi connection turns off (which I believe apple does to conserve battery). It takes a few seconds (sometimes like 10-15 seconds) for it to come back up, and when it does MPoD still reports “Not Connected to MPD Server.” I’ll wait a while after the wifi comes back on, but I always end up having to restart the app to get it to reconnect to the MPD server.
Anyway, on to fun stuff, feature requests!
1. A built in ogg/mp3 icecast client. Ok, so this one is a pipe dream.
2. A “Folder Hierarchy View,” which can maybe optionally replace the Artists view. Most of my music is Artist/Album/Song, but I have a “Misc” folder for random stuff and mixes, which makes for kind of a mess in the main view.
Thanks again for a great app (best on my phone after safari),
~Shawn

Oh wait, thought of one more thing, though not very important and perhaps not widely wanted. Optional volume control. I don’t control my server’s volume in software, but rather on the amp.
Dur. I just noticed that you addressed my bug already on the main page. If you want to reply to my other ideas there rather than here (or ignore me altogether), please do.
You’re pipe dream is about to come true: using mpd 0.14 and icecast today I managed to stream out in mp3 format, and play that directly from within MPoD.
